About the Role

Manning Kass is seeking a Senior Litigation Defense Attorney to join our New York office. This position offers the opportunity to represent businesses, insurance carriers, and individuals in a broad range of defense and insurance coverage litigation matters while working alongside an accomplished team of litigators.

Attorneys are involved in every stage of the litigation process—from early case assessment through trial—including developing litigation strategy, managing discovery, drafting and arguing motions, taking and defending depositions, participating in mediations and court appearances, and preparing cases for trial. This role provides meaningful responsibility, direct client interaction, and the opportunity to handle sophisticated litigation matters in a collaborative and supportive environment.

The ideal candidate is a proactive, strategic litigator with strong analytical, writing, and advocacy skills who enjoys managing files independently while collaborating with colleagues to achieve exceptional client outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage all phases of defense from case inception through resolution, including litigation strategy, pleadings, motion practice, discovery, depositions, hearings, mediations, and trial preparation.

• Draft and respond to written discovery, conduct legal research, prepare pleadings, motions, and legal memoranda, and develop persuasive written and oral advocacy.
\n
• Take and defend depositions, represent clients in court proceedings, and assist with all aspects of trial preparation, including motions in limine, trial briefs, jury instructions, verdict forms, and other trial-related filings.

• Maintain proactive communication with clients, insurance carriers, opposing counsel, experts, and the court while collaborating with attorneys and staff to deliver exceptional legal representation.

Requirements

\n
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
\n
• Active membership in good standing with the New York State Bar. Admission in New Jersey or another Tri-State jurisdiction is a plus.
\n
• 5 + years of civil litigation experience
\n
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage an active litigation caseload from inception through resolution effectively handling multiple files and competing deadlines.
\n
• Extensive experience with case management, written discovery, motion practice, depositions, and mediations.
\n
• Strong legal research, analytical, writing, negotiation, and oral advocacy skills.
\n
• Excellent judgment, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, insurance carriers, opposing counsel, and the court.

• Trial experience is preferred but not required. Candidates should have a genuine interest in continuing to develop their trial skills.

• Salary starting at $140,000 - $190,000. Salary is commensurate with experience.
